The heart is a powerful organ. Through it flows life sustaining blood and oxygen. Like all other muscles, the stronger it is, the better it works. Daily we read or hear about what to eat, which vitamins and supplements to take, and the exercises we need to do in order to strengthen our heart and keep it healthy.
People of all ages sign up for workshops and seminars on how to win the heart of the one they're interested in, only to later read up on how to mend a broken heart after a breakup. Way before February, we start to see all the Valentine's Day heart shaped boxed chocolate, stuffed animals, balloons and flowers, pink and red heart shaped everything. Many purchase expensive gifts, with the goal of professing "true love", in the hopes that Cupid will pierce the heart of their intended.
Others spend the day depressed, hoping next year they too, will have a Valentine.
Imagine how different this day would be if everyone knew that Jesus is our true love - the lover of our soul. There is no one that loves us more, for God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. [John 3:16].
There is no need to impress Jesus with fancy gifts, because every good and perfect gift is from above [James 1:17]. Jesus doesn't delight in sacrifices...or take pleasure in burnt offerings [Psalm 51:16]. Jesus is already in love with us. No need to text cute emojis or call. He is constantly calling us and pursuing us. Just listen, your beloved is knocking! [Song of Songs 5:2]. Even when we turn from Him, He readily takes us back.
When Jesus is the love of your life there are no broken hearts to mend because not one of the Lord's good promises has ever failed [Joshua 21:45]. Besides, God promises to wipe away every tear [Revelation 7:17 & 21:4]. His unfailing love...will...comfort you always [Psalm 119:76]. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love, lives in God, and God in them. [1 John 4:16]
Do you dream of a perfect, unconditional love? Then look no more. Jesus' kind of love is patient, kind, does not envy, does not boast, is not proud. It won't dishonor you, nor is it self-seeking, is not easily angered, and keeps no record of wrongs...it always protects...and always perseveres. [1 Corinthians 13:4-7] Hopes placed in mortals die with them [Proverbs 11:7], but the Lord is good to those who place their hope in Him [Lamentations 3:25]. Jesus is the only one your heart needs to belong to. Yet if you devote your heart to Him...life will be brighter than noonday [Job 11:13-17].
Valentines Day may be for lovers, but when Jesus holds your heart, every day is Valentine's Day. Jesus: "Be My Valentine!" You: Yes, Jesus! Always and forever!
